Ingredients:
Chicken – Cooked
& deboned whole fryers including liver, heart, giblets & skin.
There are so many good things to say about the nutritional benefits of chicken for cats. It
is very high in protein which cats require to build & maintain their bodies & is their primary source of energy. It
is full of B vitamins so it benefits muscles, nerves, enzyme function, energy, digestion, skin, coat, eyes, absorption of
amino acids, & blood cell production. It is especially high in niacin (energy production, protects against DNA damage/cancer),
selenium (thyroid metabolism, antioxidant defense, immune function), & B6 (cardiovascular health).
Cats require a high amount of
fat in their diets & do not suffer from cholesterol problems like humans do. So the liver, heart, giblets & skin
are important for cats to consume:
*Liver contains thiamin, zinc, copper, manganese, protein, A, C, riboflavin, niacin, B6, folate,
B12, pantothenic acid, iron, phosphorus, & selenium.
*Heart contains folate, pantothenic acid, phosphorus, copper, protein, riboflavin,
B12, iron, & zinc.
*Skin contains omega 6 fatty acids, protein, niacin, phosphorus, iron, zinc, A, riboflavin, B6, B12, &
magnesium.
Turkey Thighs & Breast – Cooked & deboned
with skin. Provides variety of another meat source & has many of the same properties as chicken.
Salmon – Cooked with
no skin. Rich in omega 3 for cardiovascular health. Contains antioxidants lutein & zeaxanthin for eye health. High
in protein & B vitamins. Also contains phosphorus, magnesium, zinc, iron, C, calcium, & A.
Water - All meat is cooked
in water in roasting pans creating nutrient rich broth.
Green Beans - Cooked to reduce phytic acid maximizing mineral
absorption. Contain substances that mimic insulin so they are good for diabetic cats. Also contain K,
C, manganese, A, potassium, folate, iron, magnesium, thiamin, riboflavin, copper, calcium, phosphorus, protein, omega 3, niacin,
insoluble & soluble fiber. Low on the glycemic index.
Eggs - Organic. Hard boiled. Contains
lecithin (which works as an emulsifier that helps to break up hairballs), protein, A, D, E, B, iron, phosphorus,
zinc, & omega 3.
Sweet Potato - Cooked. Contains beta-carotene, C, iron, calcium, potassium, protein, insoluble
& soluble fiber. Low on the glycemic index.
Celery - Raw. Contains A, C, K, folate, potassium,
manganese, riboflavin, B6, pantothenic acid, calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, insoluble & soluble fiber. Low on the
glycemic index. Mild diuretic, benefits the liver, stimulates appetite, & relieves digestive upset.
Calcium from Eggshells - Cooked
& ground into powder. Source of calcium carbonate which is gentle for cats with urinary problems.
Taurine - A critical nutrient
for cats for healthy eyes, normal heart function & absorption of dietary fats.
Brewer's Yeast – Contains
all amino acids, B-complex vitamins, minerals, fiber, protein, & naturally occurring nucleic acids. Promotes healthy
skin & coat. Stimulates the immune system.
Cod Liver Oil – Source of vitamin A & D. Helps
maintain healthy skin, coat, bones, cells, eyes, & teeth.
Vitamin C – As calcium ascorbate. Stomach friendly. Contains
bioflavonoids & rutin which maximizes absorption. Reduces inflammation (good for joints), heals & protects against
environmental elements & stress.
Flaxseed – Organic & ground. Contains omega-3, lignans (exhibits antioxidant properties),
magnesium, fiber, & protein. Promotes healthy skin, coat, & strengthens the immune system.
Notes:
*Vegetables & eggs are bought from local farmer markets when available.
*The vegetables are finely
chopped to break down cell walls because cats typically eat predigested vegetable matter in a prey's stomach.
*Explanation of soluble fiber &
insoluble fiber:
-Soluble fiber dissolves in water, binds with fatty acids to form a gel, delays the time it takes for food
to leave the stomach so that glucose is released & absorbed slowly which stabilizes blood glucose levels.
-Insoluble fiber draws water into
the colon increasing transportation speed of bulk through the intestine which results in a softer & larger stool. Prevents
constipation, removes toxic waste through colon in less time, controls & balances the pH acidity in the intestines.
*Explanation of Glycemic Index:
- The Glycemic Index is a
measure of the effects of carbohydrates on blood glucose levels. The lower the level on the glycemic index, the slower
carbs break down releasing glucose gradually into the bloodstream. This lowers insulin demand which is important for
diabetic cats.
